Support Services

Women's Advocate

With the support of women's advocacy, residents assess their needs and goals to determine the shape of their future. Women's advocates help residents articulate these goals, determine action steps and time lines for their achievement, and meet with them to track progress and make adjustments to the plan. Women's advocates provide information and referrals to local community resources and various social service agencies to help residents make informed decisions. They assist residents with goals supporting housing, employment, education, finances, parenting, and transportation. They also address issues concerning health management, mental health, substance abuse, and immigration with the residents. Their goal is to provide encouragement in the face of inevitable setbacks, and programs designed to meet the skill needs of residents.

Rape Crisis Center

Middle Way House's Rape Crisis Center provides 24-hour crisis intervention to victims of rape, sexual assault, incest, sexual harassment. On-scene Advocates respond to the police department or area hospital emergency departments in the event of a sexual assault. Advocates meet with victims immediately following an incident of rape or sexual assault to help ease the initial trauma, work out a safety plan, and provide necessary services. As a walk-in program, advocates are available from 8AM until 5PM to speak individually with survivors in need of support. Advocates work with victim's friends and family members coping with the secondary trauma of sexual assault and providing information to strengthen the support of their loved ones. A support group for survivors assaulted as adults provides ten weeks of structured discussion on the aftermath of rape, the healing process, and self-nurturing. Consultation and training is provided to other professionals in the community (counselors, teachers, physicians and emergency room personnel, law enforcement, and clergy) working with rape survivors.
